Dear Reader,

As Horizon 2020 will reach its halfway point in 2017, the European Commission Directorate-General for Research and Innovation is seeking for the contribution of all citizens and organizations who participate in the Framework Programme to produce an interim evaluation.

Europa Media will participate in this public consultation, and as peer proposal writers and EU project managers, we would like to encourage you to do the same. On this page you can find all relevant information and the link to the online questionnaire. To have a better idea of what interim evaluations typically look like, you can still check the one produced for FP7 in 2010 here.

As for the second half of Horizon 2020, the 2018-2020 Work Programme is still a work-in-progress, but you can monitor the latest developments on this page and, more specifically, for the following topics so far:

With four more years to go in Horizon 2020, keep working on your proposal writing skills and ensure your language can fully and clearly express your excellent and innovative research ideas: secure now your place in our 2-day course on Proposal Development. You may practice call analysis and proposal development, as well as improve your knowledge on dissemination, exploitation and IPR with our guest lecturer Arnaud Gasnier, a qualified European Patent Attorney.

We hope to see you there!

Public consultation: have your say on Horizon 2020

The European Commission has launched a public stakeholder consultation which will feed into the interim evaluation of Horizon 2020. This interim evaluation will help improve the functioning of Horizon 2020, and will also be an important element in preparations of a next EU research and innovation programme.

The public stakeholder consultation will be open until 15 January 2017. A parallel consultation on the Euratom Research and Training Programme has also been launched with the same closing date. Furthermore, a stakeholder consultation on the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is running until 20 November 2016, and a consultation on public-public and public-private partnerships under Horizon 2020 will also be launched in the near future. The interim evaluation will also draw on existing surveys and consultations, including on simplification and on a European Innovation Council.

New rules set for EU-US cooperation in Horizon 2020 projects
Gabriella Lovasz

I would like to share some interesting news regarding EU-US cooperation and share my thoughts on its practical consequences for the EU projects involving US organisations.

On 17 October 2016, the European Commission and the US Government signed an agreement, which facilitates cooperation between US organisations and Horizon 2020 participants.

This agreement indeed has been signed with the scope to ease and simplify collaboration between the US and EU partners in an H2020 project. The Partners are only expected to complete bureaucratic or reporting requirements of their respective funding programmes. That is the good news.
