We are excited to start 2019 with the launch of our four new very diverse projects and expand our activities to new fields, such as gender equality as well as new funding programmes, such as European Maritime and Fisheries Fund.
New R&I funding opportunities also mean new knowledge to gain, new contacts to initiate and new collaboration to set up. We are well aware of potential issues arising in new consortia and implementation of recently launched projects.

The High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence released the first draft of its ethics guidelines for the development and use of artificial intelligence. In March 2019, the expert group will present their final guidelines to the Commission which will analyse them and propose how to take this work forward. The ambition is then to bring Europe's ethical approach to the global stage.
The .eu is the EU's top-level internet domain name under which any person, organisation or business based in the EU – and soon any European citizen living outside the EU as well – can register their own domain name. The .eu governance rules are being revised, and today member states' ambassadors endorsed the provisional agreement on this reform, which was reached by the presidency with the European Parliament on 5 December.
A new Policy Support Facility (PSF) report looks at ways to widen participation in, and strengthen synergies between, the EU Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation (FP) and European Structural Investment Funds (ESIF) – both being key financial instruments for research and innovation (R&I) in the EU.
