GEOCOM, Geothermal Communities project emphasized and demonstrate the best available technologies in the use of geothermal energy in combination with innovative energy-efficient measures. In addition, other renewable energy sources had been integrated into the three different pilot sites based in Hungary, Italy, and Slovakia. Research had been conducted along with the demonstration component to highlight possibilities to make geothermal projects more cost-efficient and technologically sound. Further, cities currently utilizing geothermal systems in Macedonia, Poland, Romania and Serbia were involved to further advance or develop their systems.
