Bioprocesses for metabolite production from marine invertebrate cell lines
BLUES aims to enhance the production of valuable bioactive compounds from marine invertebrates by cultivating cell lines from four phyla (Porifera, Cnidaria, Echinodermata, Chordata) and optimizing yields, offering an eco-friendly alternative to wild harvesting. Recent breakthroughs have led to the creation of the first continuous marine sponge cell line, demonstrating rapid division in multiple species. The project’s goal is to develop industrial bioprocesses using these cell lines for sustainable production of high-value marine bio-based compounds, promoting circular processing and contributing to the Blue Bioeconomy.
