Rewilding and Restoration of Intertidal Sediment Ecosystems for Carbon Sequestration, Climate Adaptation and Biodiversity Support
Rewilding and Restoration of Intertidal Sediment Ecosystems for Carbon Sequestration, Climate Adaptation and Biodiversity Support
The REWRITE project aims to address the challenges faced by Europe’s vast intertidal areas, which play a critical role in promoting carbon neutrality and supporting biodiversity. Despite their importance, these areas are under threat, leading to a reduction in their ecological contributions. With the collaboration of multiple partners from Europe and North America, REWRITE proposes “rewilding” these seascapes as a nature-based solution. The interdisciplinary initiative seeks to understand the factors influencing rewilding amidst climate change, actively engage stakeholders in shaping the future of these coastal regions, scale rewilding strategies across Europe, and establish effective rewilding tools for a resilient European coast.
