This 3-day training course will help you ensure that the day-to-day bookkeeping as well as the periodic and financial reports of your first Horizon Europe and last H2020 projects are sound and fully conform with the requirements of the programme rules. Financial changes between Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe will be introduced in detail.

•    Horizon Europe Financial Rules
Introducing the financial rules from the very basics to the most advanced issues using a practical, real-life approach. Prepare yourself, because you will make a lot of notes.   
   
•    Workshop: Financial Management and Reporting
Discover the well-known and utterly unique workshop of Europa Media. Participants will receive a package consisting of timesheets, salary slips, invoices, contracts, per-diem certificates, and mission reports for a virtual Horizon Europe project. They will then have to calculate the eligible costs and submit a financial statement. Comparison with H2020 will be fully integrated.

•    EC Audits
Participants will be briefed on the EC financial audit process. Financial rules and bottlenecks, tricks, and mistakes to focus on will be introduced.

•    Workshop: EC Audit
You will become an auditor for a day! Participants in small groups will perform a financial audit of a virtual Horizon Europe /H2020 project based on the documentation provided by us.

  • Budgeting and planning: Why it is the most crucial part?  
  • What is a cost-reimbursement? What is lump-sum financing?   
  • Actual costs and unit costs? Which one should I choose?  
  • What makes any cost eligible? How to make them eligible? 
  • Linking a cost to the project? What makes them direct costs?  
  • Can I report indirect costs? If not, why not? 
  • Who and when can be charged to the project? 
  • Actual or unit-based personnel costs calculation – so what?

Why this course?

We have 20 years of experience in developing and implementing projects under the EU's research framework programmes. Under Horizon 2020, we have been involved successfully in over 30 projects, coordinating six of them. In Horizon Europe we will launch seven new projects soon.

Who we are

Europa Media has been supporting public and private organisations to develop successful project proposals and effectively manage projects under the EU's research and innovation programmes since FP5. Over the past 20+ years, our team has been directly involved in writing successful proposals and coordinating and managing projects under different EU programmes. Under Horizon 2020, we have been involved in over 30 projects as coordinators and partners. Our workshops and seminars are designed based on this direct experience we have from our own proposals and projects - we discuss and reflect on a lot of specific problems during these events.
