Open science in Horizon Europe - How to commit when developing a proposal and comply with when implementing your project? (June 2024)

Open science is explained in the Grant Agreement as an 'approach to the scientific process based on open cooperative work, tools and diffusing knowledge'.

This webinar will introduce the mandatory legal obligations and the optional open science practices including early and open sharing, open peer-review, reproducibility or citizen science, etc. All requirements will be explained on metadata, validation, repositories, etc. with examples from research projects from different disciplines. It is not enough to commit yourself in the proposal, because your promises will become your legal obligations.  The principle stays: as open as possible and as closed as necessary. How to balance this with industry partners is an important question you need to answer.

Topics covered:

  • Open access to scientific publications

  • Open access to research data

  • FAIR principles in research data management

  • Open science approaches

  • Licencing, repositories, validation requirements

  • AGA Annex 5 explanations

Who is this webinar for?

The webinar will help researchers and research administrators, communication people to understand better how open science requirements can be fulfilled.

Lump sum grants, actual cost reporting, and all those crazy unit costs for personnel – What’s going on in Horizon Europe? (June 2024)

Financing of framework programme projects through budgeting of estimated costs and reimbursement for the actually incurred direct cost reported has been the norm since the beginning.

However, reporting these costs can be complicated, which has led to complaints… a lot.

Later, Horizon Europe started using lump sum funding increasingly to simplify the program by removing the need to report actual costs. However, this has led to new complaints about the complexity of budgeting.

Most recently, the EC has come up with the all-new unit-cost reporting, which assumingly merges the benefits of the above ones….or rather the disadvantages?

So, which one is better? Which one is more flexible?

Though obviously, which one to be used is not up to you – as it is set by the EC when publishing the calls -, on our all-new free webinar we are trying to find answers to these questions. Each one has its own bottlenecks and advantages, and the real problems arise when one has to use them parallel: internal recording, planning and bookkeeping shall face severe issues when a beneficiary has to handle both rulesets at the same time.

Highlighted topics:

  • Do I need any proof on costs in lump-sum? versus: Can I charge a cost if it incurred but was not budgeted in cost reporting?

  • How to handle timesheet of a staff member if involved in both lump-sum and regular projects?

  • Should the personnel be separated on HE projects funded lump-sum and actual cost?

  • Can I use the all-new unit personnel costs even if your actual cost are lower?

  • Can I cross finance and equipment from lump-sum and cost-reimbursed projects? What kind of internal recording is needed?

  • Internal invoiced costs and services – should I have 2 price lists? One for lump-sum unit costs, another one for real costs?

  • Reporting and payment scenarios, and many-many more…

Come and join our expert trainers, Krisztina and Gabor on this very special webinar! Let them show you how to navigate through the easily misunderstandable guides of HE and clear up the picture on the exact requirements and practices to be used in real life!

Who is this webinar for?

This webinar is recommended for those, regardless of experience, who want to learn about the problems and solutions of Horizon Europe funding schemes - given that fancy theoretical guides raise more questions than they answer!

Short term, mid-term and long term impact KPIs - How do we define the right KPIs in our Horizon Europe proposal? (June 2024)

After the first 4 years of Horizon Europe, impact still seems to be the most challenging part of the proposal. Simultaneously, the evaluators are getting even more strict when it comes to what constitutes a good impact section.

One thing is for sure – there is no successful impact section without the correct KPIs.

How do we find the numbers that are ambitious enough to convince the evaluators, yet realistic enough to be in line with our consortium capacities and activities we plan to implement?

Join us to hear some tips, tricks, guidelines, as well as examples from real proposals and let’s decipher together what the Commission considers to be convincing KPIs that are in line with their expectations.

Who is this webinar for?

This webinar is for those who would like to submit a proposal under the current and upcoming calls of Horizon Europe and have special interest in the impact section.

Typical mistakes in Horizon Europe proposals – Showcasing negative comments from Evaluation Summary Reports (ESRs) (June 2024)

The best way to improve your proposal writing skills and your success rate is to actually write and submit proposals.

The second best way is to learn from the evaluators' feedback – both positive and negative.

As of mid-June 2024, the first half of Horizon Europe will be over. With the publication of the new Horizon Europe Strategic Plan for 2025-2027 recently, the new calls for the second half of Horizon Europe are also being launched. There are already several calls with deadlines in early 2025 thanks to the extended HE work programmes 2023-2025.

The evaluation summary reports (ESRs) of our successful as well as unsuccessful Horizon Europe proposals in the past 3.5 years have allowed us to draw several conclusions on the key success criteria of competitive proposals.

Join us to hear our take on the Commission's and the evaluators’ expectations on the different sections of a Horizon Europe proposal: from objectives to methodology, ambition to impact, dissemination to IP management, work plan to horizontal aspects – we will showcase what the evaluators criticised and how they down-scored proposals on the award criteria. Based on these, we will provide tips on how to fix those potential shortcomings in your upcoming proposals.

Who is this webinar for?

This webinar is for all those who would like to submit a proposal under the current and upcoming calls of Horizon Europe. It is suitable for beginner as well as advanced participants who would like to get practical tips on how to maximise the success rate of their proposals.

Lump sum budgeting - How to prepare the mandatory detailed budget table? (January 2024)

If you have been scrolling through the Horizon Europe calls for proposals recently, you may have noticed that more and more of them have Lump Sum instead of Action Grant Budget-Based as the type of funding. The shift is visible, and the Programme will be going towards Lump Sum calls more and more in the future.

This means that the budgeting we are used to needs to change: we need more details, more planning and definitely more time. As Lump Sum is here to stay, this webinar is meant to introduce how we approach budgeting in this type of funding, how the table looks like and what we need to pay attention to.

Topics covered

  • Lump Sum budgeting essentials.

  • Input needed from the partners for a successful budget development.

  • Introducing the mandatory detailed budget table and tips on how to fill it out and common mistakes.

The webinar is accessible for 12 months after the purchase under "My Account".
