Towards an EU zero pollution ambition

What do we need for healthier people and a healthy planet? A ZERO POLLUTION ambition!

Either through the air we breathe, the water we drink or the land we grow our food on, pollution affects everybody. Did you know that it is actually the largest environmental cause of multiple mental and physical diseases, as well as of premature deaths? (especially among children, people with certain medical conditions and the elderly). And unfortunately, it is very unjust too, because pollution does not affect everybody equally since the contaminated sites and areas with very high flow of traffic, tend to be in deprived areas.

As if it would not be enough, pollution is also one of the main reasons for the loss of biodiversity. It reduces the ability of ecosystems to provide services such as carbon sequestration and decontamination. So, if it affects our health, our food, our water, and our ecosystems, wouldn’t be about time to do start doing something?

Well, that is the goal of the EU Action Plan toward a Zero Pollution Ambition! To create a toxic-free environment across the EU by better monitoring and, reporting, and by preventing and remedying pollution from air, water, soil, and consumer products.
